Discover Restaurant Schrøder

Restaurant Schrøder is a charming little gem nestled in the heart of Oslo at Waldemar Thranes gate 8, 0171. If you're looking for a place where you can enjoy comforting, delicious food in a relaxed, inviting atmosphere, this is definitely the spot to check out.

Walking into Restaurant Schrøder, you're immediately hit with the cozy, unpretentious vibe that feels like a home away from home. The interior boasts a retro style that harkens back to simpler times. The warm lighting and vintage decor create an atmosphere that's both casual and intimate, making it perfect for everything from a quick lunch to a laid-back evening dinner with friends or family.

One of the highlights of dining at Restaurant Schrøder is the menu, which is rich in classic Norwegian comfort food. Whether you're a local or a visitor to Oslo, the menu is sure to offer something that feels both familiar and satisfying. A standout dish is their famous fish soup-a creamy, rich broth filled with fresh seafood that perfectly captures the flavors of Norway’s coastal regions. It's the kind of dish that warms you up from the inside out, especially on a chilly Oslo day.

The restaurant’s signature dish, though, has to be their pork ribs. Tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection, these ribs are served with a side of mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The balance of flavors and textures is impeccable, and it's easy to see why this has become a crowd favorite.

What sets Restaurant Schrøder apart from many other places in Oslo is the consistency of its offerings. They maintain a high standard across all dishes, whether you're enjoying a plate of classic Norwegian meatballs with brown sauce or savoring a lighter salmon salad. And if you have a bit of a sweet tooth, don't miss out on their homemade desserts, especially the apple pie-it’s a true classic that rounds off the meal perfectly.

In addition to the great food, the service at Restaurant Schrøder is always friendly and attentive. The staff makes you feel like you're part of the family, and they’re always happy to offer recommendations or explain the various dishes on the menu. The casual vibe is complemented by their willingness to take the time to chat and ensure your experience is top-notch.

Many locals appreciate how Restaurant Schrøder has managed to remain a staple in Oslo's restaurant scene for so long. It offers a blend of nostalgia with modern-day charm, attracting both regulars and newcomers alike. Whether you're dropping by for a quick bite or enjoying a long, leisurely meal, you’ll find yourself feeling welcomed and satisfied every time.

The location, situated on Waldemar Thranes gate, is also ideal-it's close enough to major attractions in Oslo, yet still feels like a hidden gem, away from the hustle and bustle of the more tourist-heavy areas. It's an ideal spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing or a busy work week.

For anyone in Oslo, Restaurant Schrøder is more than just a place to eat-it's an experience. It’s one of those spots where the food is consistently good, the atmosphere is perfect, and you can truly feel at home. Whether you're craving hearty Norwegian fare or just looking for a great place to enjoy a meal with friends or family, this little diner should be at the top of your list. And with its cozy charm and delicious offerings, it’s easy to see why it's been a favorite for so many years.

  • Very nice, homemade food. I love the design, not so posh - just place to eat good food for reasonable price. First time in Norway I am leaving restaurant happy

  • Nice calm place. Went there at 6 because I was starving after a long day travelling. There were great plate size to eat. I had the trout and it was delicious, although very hot. Very good service too

  • We were looking for a traditional Norwegian restaurant. Weirdly enough there were not that many options in Oslo. We got this restaurant recommended. We loved their Taste of Norway with the 3 different types of meatballs including reindeer and all the extras. We also ordered the fish. Sadly, this was extremely bland. There was no seasoning on either the fish, potatoes or vegetables. If you go here and you want to try some Norwegian food, stick to the meatballs. The age of the people coming here was also something you couldn't ignore. We were around 40 years younger than the average age in the (full) restaurant.

  • Good prices, good food and decent beer. Staff were pleasant & the decor puts you back a few decades. Don’t come here expecting fine dining or amazing interiors - this is hearty home cooking at its best.

  • This is a great restaurant! We wanted to try traditional food and chose Schrøder. We ordered the mixed plate and it was good to try reindeer. The cabbage and mushy peas were also delicious. It was worth traveling out of the city center to visit . The restaurant is decorated nicely, a little retro. We had a great meal and a nice time here.

  • I visited this restaurant during my trip to Oslo and had an unforgettable experience. The owner was incredibly kind and helpful, and even offered me a free meal as a warm gesture to a tourist. It’s a gesture I will always remember and truly appreciate. The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and made with care. Tusen takk for such a wonderful experience! Highly recommended to anyone visiting Oslo.
